Lens culinaris

Annual plant, open pollinated.

A productive lentil variety that produces many beautiful black lentils. They are so named because when cooked they resemble beluga caviar (look it up!). Lentils are an amazing source of protein and fibre, and are a fun plant to try growing at home - you need a lot of space to grow enough for eating, but it's a sweet plant to get to know nonetheless.

Lentils are originally from the middle-east.

80 days to marutiy.

50 seeds per pack.

Seed starting

Direct seed in the garden as soon as soil can be worked. Sow 1/4 inch deep. Lentils are very short bush type plants. Plant a few inches apart, in rows 3 inches apart.  They can tolerate a little frost, and they are naturally quite drought tolerant.
