Black Einkorn Wheat
Triticum monococcum.
Annual plant. Open pollinated.
This is an heirloom variety prized for wheat weaving. The thin flat black heads make it a beautiful variety to work with, and they do not come apart easily, making it sturdy. It has a small stem.
Einkorn wheat is also known as Stone Age wheat, domesticated about 10,000 years ago.
Einkorn can be grown for straw crafts and weaving! Such an interesting craft, grow your own and explore the exciting world of straw crafts. One pack is enough to get you started- harvest your own seed to grow more in the following years.
Most wheat, barley and rye varieties are quite drought tolerant. These have produced very well in many conditions.
50 seeds per pack.
Days to Maturity: 90
Seed starting:
Directly plant outside in the garden as soon as soil can be worked. Sow to a death of 1/2 inch in straight rows, 3 or 4 neighbouring rows - weed competing plants until it is tall enough to weed them out itself.
We live and garden on ancestral territory of Algonquin Anishnaabeg People, forever territory of wild fauna & flora, cultivated lands of Irish and French settlers, and now beloved home of the junco seeds family (humans, chickens, dogs, sheep and cats)
