Hidasta pole beans
Phaseolus vulgaris
Annual plant, open pollinated.
Pole bean. Dry bean. Shelling bean.
This pole bean has proven to be very disease resistant. It was originally grown by the Hidasta tribes of North Dakota near the Missouri river. Great bean for soups and baking - it features on the Slow Food USA's Ark of Taste for its flavour and cooking qualities. Apparently makes a great hummus instead of chickpeas! Grow your own hummus ;)
Days to maturity: 100 days for dry beans.
20 seeds per pack.
Seed starting:
For bush beans, pole beans and runner beans.
Direct seed in your garden once all danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed. Beans do not tolerate frost. Early June is when we plant around here. Sow seed about 1” deep. Darker coloured seeds tend to germinate better in cooler soils.
Pole beans and runner beans need something to climb!
We live and garden on ancestral territory of Algonquin Anishnaabeg People, forever territory of wild fauna & flora, cultivated lands of Irish and French settlers, and now beloved home of the junco seeds family (humans, chickens, dogs, sheep and cats)
