Persicaria tinctoria
Grow Japanese Indigo seeds, also known as polygonum tinctorium. It is in the buckwheat family.
This plant grows well in our colder climates, yet saving seeds is a little tricky. This is a green, leafy plant which will grow up to 3 feet tall. It will produce a small pink or white flower depending on the length of your growing season. Here in the Gatineau hills, I am covering my plants in the fall and harvesting the flowerheads early in order to save seeds.
The leaves can be harvested many times a season for fresh leaf indigo dyeing!
Sow seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost, harden off before planting out 1 foot apart.
25 seeds per pack
We live and garden on ancestral territory of Algonquin Anishnaabeg People, forever territory of wild fauna & flora, cultivated lands of Irish and French settlers, and now beloved home of the junco seeds family (humans, chickens, dogs, sheep and cats)
