Sadie's Horse Runner Beans
Phaseolus coccineus.
Pole beans. Ornamental and edible.
This scarlet runner bean is a treat to have in the garden - its beautiful red scarlet and pearl white blooms attract hummingbirds and pollinators. It is grown mainly for its beautiful blooms, although the very young seed pods can also be eaten as snap beans.
This seed, grown at the farm, was sourced from Heritage Harvest Seeds in Manitoba - it is said to have been grown in the same family for over 100 years.
They do require sturdy and tall trellising as they can reach beyond 12' feet tall.
110 days to dry beans.
10 (huge) seeds per pack.
Seed starting:
For bush beans, pole beans and runner beans.
Direct seed in your garden once all danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed. Beans do not tolerate frost. Early June is when we plant around here. Sow seed about 1” deep. Darker coloured seeds tend to germinate better in cooler soils.
Pole beans and runner beans need something to climb!
We live and garden on ancestral territory of Algonquin Anishnaabeg People, forever territory of wild fauna & flora, cultivated lands of Irish and French settlers, and now beloved home of the junco seeds family (humans, chickens, dogs, sheep and cats)
