St Hubert Soup Peas
Pisum sativum
Annual plant, open pollinated.
This is an heirloom variety from Quebec that grows up to 6ft tall (needs support), producing large quantities of tiny pods. It is said to be have been brought to New-France in the 17th century.
This variety was named for Saint Hubert (aka st-hubertus), the patron saint of hunters, since Pea soup was a traditional meal during the hunting season.
St-Hubert soup pea is very rare.

Seed starting
Direct seed in the garden as soon as soil can be worked. Sow at 1 inch depth. Peas will climb, so provide them with trellising. They can tolerate a little frost, and they are naturally quite drought tolerant. You can plant them a couple inches apart.
We live and garden on ancestral territory of Algonquin Anishnaabeg People, forever territory of wild fauna & flora, cultivated lands of Irish and French settlers, and now beloved home of the junco seeds family (humans, chickens, dogs, sheep and cats)
